Post-Basel/Miami Art Week Wrap Up: What A Week!

As usual, this year’s Art Week was a unique and memorable whirlwind of incredible sights, people and activities.

Here’s a wrap-up of some of the most memorable events for our Related team:

Pre-Basel Brunch And Art Installation At Hyde Beach Kitchen + Cocktails

On November 29, artist Jordan Kasey and our CEO and Founder Jorge Pérez revealed the newest art installation to complement Hyde Beach Kitchen + Cocktail’s (HBK+C) already impressive collection.

Kasey, a New York native, is best known for her large-scale oil paintings, abstract landscapes, fantastical objects and lively characters. At Sunday’s brunch, she unveiled three new paintings for permanent display at the recently opened HBK+C.

Located just north of Miami Beach, HBK+C is a product of The Related Group and Sam Nazarian’s sbe – two industry leaders that have combined their formidable business and creative skills to build nearly $2 billion worth of hotel and residential projects in South Florida.

Surface Magazine Kicks Of Miami Art Week With Jorge Pérez At PAMM

On November 30, Surface magazine kicked off Art Basel Miami Beach with an exclusive private dinner honoring December issue cover star Jorge Pérez, our CEO and Founder, at the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM).

The intimate, open-air patio dinner for 125 brought together a powerful circle of influential VIPs from the worlds of art, architecture, fashion and design. Guests enjoyed dinner accompaniment provided by the Miami Symphony Orchestra, led by Eduardo Marturet, and a rare performance by Wyclef Jean that went well into the night. At one point, Jean held guest of honor Jorge Pérez on his shoulders!

Mana Contemporary 2015 Miami Art Week Preview

On December 1, Moishe Mana, Eugene Lemay, Billie Milam Weisman, Serge Tiroche and our CEO and Founder Jorge Pérez hosted the VIP preview of Mana Contemporary’s 2015 Miami Art Week Programming, which included a special performance by the Miami Symphony Orchestra.

Following the dinner, guests had first access to three of the world’s top modern art collections, as well as to the recently completed 140,000 square foot Mana Wynwood Convention Center.

Exhibitions included:

  • Made in California: Selections from the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation
  • A Sense of Place: Selections from the Jorge M. Pérez Collection
  • Everything you are I am not: Latin American Art from the Tiroche DeLeon Collection

Notable Guests included: Adrian Grenier, David Arendt, Jared Shapiro, Catherine Petitgas, Virgilio Garza, Richard Fitzburgh, Peter Hort, Francine LeFrak, Mazdack Rassi, Carlos Garaioca, Eduardo Basualdo, Andy Moses, Lita Albuquerque, Dr. Julio Frenk and Filipe Leite.

 

Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation’s Art For Life Charity Auction
At Park Grove Raised Over $200,000

On December 3, Russell Simmons, David Martin, Danny Simmons and our CEO and Founder Jorge Pérez hosted the annual Art For Life Auction benefitting the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation at the Park Grove penthouse sales gallery in the Coconut Grove neighborhood. 

The auction, which was powered by Artsy and conducted by Simon de Pury, included pieces by Art For Life 2015 featured artists Wangechi Mutu, Romero Britto, Renee Cox, Shepard Fairey, Theaster Gates, Mr. Brainwash and Kehinde Wiley—whose piece received the most bids of the lot and sold for more than three times its original value.  

By night’s end, Art for Life closed over 30 lots — 11 live and more than twice as many silent — totaling over $200,000. Guests were treated to musical stylings of DJ M.O.S., while enjoying bites throughout the night catered by Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink.

The Global Gift Initiative Honored Jorge Perez
And Raised Over $200,000 At Auberge Miami

Also on December 3, Eva Longoria and Ricky Martin joined forces with the Global Gift Initiative to honor our CEO and Founder Jorge Pérez.

The Global Gift Initiative was the first event by the Global Gift Foundation to debut in the United States. The event took place at the beautifully decorated and art-filled sales gallery of Auberge Miami.

The hosts of the event honored Pérez as “Philanthropreneur of the Year” for his longstanding dedication to and support of the arts, most notably for his role in establishing the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM). Guests had to purchase a ticket to attend and proceeds benefitted the Eva Longoria Foundation, the Ricky Martin Foundation and the Global Gift Foundation.
